Buttermilk Rolls

Soft and airy buttermilk rolls with a slight tang and a hint of cardamom. They are easy to make and become extra moist thanks to the buttermilk, perfect for breakfast or a cozy afternoon.

Buttermilk Rolls

Ingredients

  • 30 g yeast
  • 250 ml buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 75 g butter

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast in the buttermilk
  2. Stir in the sugar and egg
  3. Add flour, salt, and cardamom and knead the dough using a stand mixer or hand mixer with dough hooks until the dough comes together and pulls away from the bowl
  4. Let the dough rest covered for 1 hour
  5. Divide the dough into 12 rolls and shape them round
  6. Let the rolls rise covered on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for another hour
  7. Brush the rolls with egg and bake them at 225°C (standard oven) for 10 - 12 minutes
